Magic, You do Magic

Magic is the kind of entertainment enjoyed by most people. There are those who merely enjoy the illusion, accepting it as true magic. Others realize that it is illusion and love it anyway.

When you begin to learn , you can start with a book, DVD or magic kit.  This will give you a technique or two to practice with. Once you've learned the concept, make it your own by thinking about how you can use the secret differently to make it unique. People won't continue to watch the same trick again and again. They'll either find it too boring or they'll figure out how you did it and that is even more boring.  If you were interested in a successful career with magic, knowing when to stop and when to keep going is a fine line that needs to be learned.

Don't exceed your limits. This way, you can fascinate people with just one or two tricks and leave a good impression rather than bomb by a failed attempt at the third or fourth trick.  Learning magic tricks does not have to be hard.  Although you typically see some of the finest magicians performing amazing feats, you too can impress family and friends with basic techniques.  The great thing about magic is that even some of the simple tricks are captivating and often difficult to figure out to the person watching.

Once you've learned a secret, it's also critical that you not tell everyone how that trick is accomplished. Not only does it mean you can't do the trick again, but the performance of other magicians is ruined as well.  When a magician performs a trick, then shows how it was done, and repeats it successfully and does not use the secret he's just revealed is when an illusion is most effective.

To become good with any magic, even the basics, you need to dedicate time to practice sharpening your skills.  Develop sleight of hand movements so precise and quick that the eye does not see them.  Any trick no matter how easy should not be presented until you are prepared to present it perfectly.  If you are performing tricks with cards, practice in front of a mirror and try to get a feel for how you move the cards in order to perfect the illusion. Try doing it fast and slow so you can do the trick either way.

If you are just learning , an audience full of kids is a great way to get started.  You'll never have a better audience than a room full of children. First establish the audience's expectations.  If you tell the audience they will see magic, it will help them to believe that anything out of the ordinary is magic.  Expectations may not be that they will see something magic; it may simply be that they expect entertainment.  Being in touch with your audience is the showmanship part of the magic trick and is very important.

When performing any kind of magic you must get your audiences attention so they are not focusing on what you are trying to cover up. You need to add humor, this helps distract the audience, also use your hands ,always look into their eyes, ask your audience questions, this gets them even more distracted and not so focused on trying to find the secret to your magic trick!! You just have to learn some to small talk, learn some jokes, some one liners, this will take your magic performance to the next level.
