AcrobaticsAcrobatics and Circus VHS |
By Learnzat.com China claims to be the originator of the art of acrobatics. The specialized and ancient art of jumping, tumbling, and balancing, often later with the use of such equipment as poles, single-wheel cycles, balls, barrels, tightropes, trampolines. They aren't alone in being capable of amazing feats of contortion and agility, but they alone have raised this sport to an art form and cultural icon. They glide through swinging hoops like human javelins and wave like strings of beads; they're as flexible as a Slinky and as strong as an iron bar. The art began more than 2,500 years ago either with bored farmers looking for something to do after the harvest was in or early soldiers demonstrating their physical prowess between battles -- depending on which tale you prefer. It's an art in which the body is pushed way past what nature intended. At one time the only popular entertainment approved by Mao Tse-tung and his watchdogs of public morality, acrobatics flourished while other forms of enjoyment faded away. And while Chinese audiences are rather blasé about the physical proficiency of their brothers and sisters, for most of us, acrobatics literally take our breath away. In terms of career progression, there are not many artists in their late thirties, early forties, so you need to think ahead. If you've done dance and acrobatic training, it'll be easier to start a new career in that area. You could teach or choreograph your own show. |
